GENTLE AND MILD CREAM RINSE HAIR CONDITIONER

A NATURAL CONDITIONER IS A SUSTAINABLE OPTION For those who are trying to go “no waste” or who wish to contribute as little waste as possible then making your own hair conditioner is about as no waste as you can get. I can’t promise you’ll have zero waste unless you can get your hands upon a supplier that allows you to recycle packaging or will fill containers you bring to them, but the products that you are making themselves use a simple pump dispenser which you can refill time after time. I shall soon be selling this recipe along with my solid shampoo and conditioner bars!

CONCERNED ABOUT PRESERVATIVES?

Just as with the shampoo bar, it is important to use a preservative when making conditioner. This product is going to be stored in a humid environment and will be used with water often. It is very possible for mold or other microbes to form in the conditioner. I personally don’t recommend making a liquid conditioner and keeping it in the fridge.

My preservative of choice is a natural, EcoCert certified one, only a tiny amount is required. Further information is listed below.

VERY FRUGAL!

With my cream rinse conditioner you use a lot less product on your hair than a commercial one, its so super soft and luxurious that you really don’t need a lot. So, you wasting less, which is, again, more environmentally friendly. You can use a tiny amount as a very good leave-in conditioner if your hair is really dry and prone to breakage.

INGREDIENTS USED IN MY CREAM RINSE CONDITIONER

If you want to call something a conditioner, it must be cationic. Cationic ingredients are positively charged, while hair (and skin) is negatively charged, so cationic ingredients bond with our hair (and skin). The “conditioned” feel in this lotion is really noticeable, and lovely. It is distinctly different from emollience or hydration, and helps control static, protect your hair, reduce damage caused by friction, and leave your hair silky smooth and lustrous.

BTMS-25 - BEHENTRIMONIUM METHOSULFATE - This is a cationic (positively charged) emulsifying wax. Because its Cationic it is also “conditioning”, it creates a very fine coating on the skin and hair giving an amazing finish (making the hair feel stunning) that is unique to cationic ingredients. It functions as a completely emulsifying wax giving your hair a real conditioned feeling with added body and thickness. VEGETABLE GLYCERINE - is a humectant and its a water-soluble ingredient that helps capture the moisture from the air to keep your hair moisturised. It also helps with curl definition (if you have curly hair) and helps frizz reduction.

ARGON OIL - Rich and moisturising and very high in vitamins (especially vitamin E) and minerals, Argon oil is a must in hair products. It is quite expensive but really worth it for its soothing, conditioning and shining qualities.

JOJOBA OIL - This is a carrier oil that is actually a liquid wax, pressed from the seeds of Simmondsia chinensis, Jojoba oil closely resembles our own skin’s sebum making it a wonderful ingredient for the skin and hair. Its rich in vitamin E so it has a good shelf life, gives great slip and shine to a conditioner.

WHEAT PROTEIN - Wheat Protein reduces hair's porosity and strengthens it from within, making your hair healthier, shinier, and easier to style. This protein increases your hair's ability to receive and retain moisture. It helps reduce breakage, eliminates frizz and tangles, and makes your hair appear fuller.

B-PANTHENOL- Also known as provitamin B5, an ingredient used in all the best (and most expensive) shampoos and skin care products!!. It acts as a humectant helping to attract moisture into the hair as well as helping to nourish it.

SHAROMIX 705 - which is an ECOCERT certified natural preservative that can be used around 1% of the recipe by weight so only a tiny amount is needed. It is free of parabens, formaldehyde diners, halogens and isothiazolinones and can be safely used in the preservation of creams, lotions, shampoo, liquid soap, shower gels and hair conditioners. For it to work effectively the final pH of the product must be less than 5.5.

ALOE VERA POWDER - A highly concentrated, dried version of Aloe gel, a little goes a very long way! Aloe vera's natural enzymes destroy the excessive dead skin cells and fungus that leads to dandruff (malassezia) while also leaving the scalp's pH level balanced and hair beautifully moisturised.
